How To Clean A Burnt Copper Bottom Pan: Step by Step Guide

Step One: Remove the Burnt Food

Take the burnt bits off the inside bottom of your copper pan. Pour at least two drops of liquid dish washing soap into the bottom of your pan.

Cover the layer of burnt food by filling your pan with hot water. Add two tablespoons of baking soda into the pan and allow it to soak for about one hour.

Step Four: Apply a Paste of Vinegar, White Fluor and Table Salt

Pour ¼ to ½ cup vinegar into a microwave safe bowl. Warm the vinegar in a microwave and maintain medium to high temperature for half an hour. As the vinegar is heating up, take a second bowl and mix ½ cup white flour and ½ cup table salt in it.

Add warm vinegar into your second bowl (containing a mixture of table salt and white flour) and stir it until it forms a thick paste. Spread this paste over your burnt copper bottom pan.

Using a soft cloth, rub the paste gently into the bottom of the pan. Allow the paste to rest on the bottom until it dries. Then, remove the excess paste by wiping it off with a clean cloth. Rinse the bottom of your copper pan in hot water.

Step Five: Remove the Residual Stains with Salted Lemon

Cut a lemon into two halves using a knife. Dip one of these halves in table salt and ensure that the entire cut surface has been covered. Rub any remaining tarnished spots with salted lemon to help remove residual stains.

Use a dish scrubber to work the salt and lemon juice deep into the burns. Once the stains have disappeared, give your copper pan a good rinse with hot water to remove the remnants of both the lemon scrub and the marks.
